Looking Back and Moving Forward
Reflecting on the Latter Half of 2024
As 2024 drew to a close, I took a moment to reflect on a year filled with incredible musical experiences, unexpected challenges, and inspiring collaborations. From the concert halls of London to the vibrant energy of the TRIORCA Youth Orchestra, it was a journey of growth, discovery, and a renewed appreciation for the power of music.
Musical Moments
Performing with the London Contemporary Orchestra for the "Assassin's Creed Symphonic Adventure" was a truly unique and immersive experience. The music, precisely synchronized with a giant screen, merged orchestral elements with lights and storytelling to create an extraordinary spectacle. I especially enjoyed the challenge of capturing the energy and intensity of the game's iconic battles as the music seamlessly blended with the on-screen action.
Working with the TRIORCA Youth Orchestra was a highlight. Their energy and enthusiasm were contagious. I'm proud of the work we accomplished, and I'm excited to see what these musicians achieve in the future.
The Bungay Folk Festival was a great way to kick off September! It was a joy to perform for the appreciative crowd, who clearly enjoyed the mix of Venezuelan rhythms, Will's original songs, and Jason's poetry.
In October, I premiered a captivating Violin and Piano Sonata by Will Fergusson at the Broken Spoke Session 10 in Great Yarmouth. The four-movement work explores a range of emotions and textures, and I especially enjoyed the introspective and melancholic mood of the third movement and the virtuosity and exhilarating energy of the finale.
My "Festive Melodies from Near and Far" recital at Anteros Arts Foundation in December was a special event. The program featured diverse musical styles, from classical pieces by Handel and Mozart to the vibrant rhythms of Gershwin and holiday favorites. It was a joy to premiere a beautiful arrangement of the Venezuelan carol "Niño Lindo," arranged by my fellow Venezuelan, Icli Zitella. The audience was moved by this rendition, and several people expressed their appreciation. We concluded with "Christmas Confusion" by Aleksey Igudesman, which brought smiles. And for the encore, I treated the audience to a special arrangement of "White Christmas."
The heartwarming audience was a wonderful way to end the year.
Musical Community
My conversations with Sally Wortley, Juliet Rickards, and Andrew Weeks have sparked some exciting ideas for enhancing music education in our region. I'm exploring new mentorship programs and ways to make string playing more accessible to young people. Stay tuned for updates on these initiatives! I also had the pleasure of collaborating with composer Andrew Weeks on a recording project back in November. It was a fantastic experience to work together and bring his music to life.
Behind the Scenes
Life as an independent musician is full of surprises! From navigating train delays to discovering new practice techniques, there's never a dull moment. One of my most memorable experiences last year was my trip to London for the Assassin's Creed Symphony concert, which turned into a bit of an adventure. Despite leaving Norwich with plenty of time to spare, an unexpected accident on the railway line left me stranded at a station with no way to get to London or back to Norwich! It was a stressful situation, but thankfully, I managed to make it to the concert just in time!
The Inner Musician
This past year has been a journey of self-discovery, both musically and personally. I'm embracing challenges, taking risks, and trusting my intuition. I'm also cultivating a more mindful approach to music-making, focusing on the joy of the process and savoring each moment.
Continuing the Journey in 2025
New Year, New Goals
As I look ahead to the rest of 2025, I'm filled with excitement and anticipation. I'm eager to continue sharing my passion for music through performances, teaching, and collaborations. My goals for the year include continuing to expand my teaching studio, premiering one new piece in every performance, and collaborating with other artists.
Upcoming Projects
I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be presenting a workshop on strategies for practice and performing, this time focused on young adults and adult learners.
Early 2025 Updates
I'm always delighted to see my students embracing new challenges and making progress in their musical journeys. One student has been diligently preparing for their GCSE music exam and has received encouraging feedback, demonstrating commendable dedication.
In addition to teaching, I'm also busy with several exciting projects. I'm putting the final touches on my practice workshop for young adults and adult learners, and I'm also taking some time to prepare a solo violin program. I'm looking forward to sharing more details about these projects soon!
I hope you enjoyed this update on my musical journey! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or if you'd like to explore violin lessons, discuss potential performance opportunities, or simply connect about music.
